For learning and inspiration
The demonstrations, project descriptions, explanations and videos on this website are provided for general educational purposes. They help children and parents see the kind of science and engineering ideas explored in our classes.
The interactive demonstrations are simplified models. For example, the bridge demonstration shows a pattern of how designs compare. It does not give real engineering measurements.
Practical activities need supervision
Hands-on STEM activities can involve:
- electricity and batteries;
- tools, including sharp tools;
- hot surfaces, such as hot glue guns; and
- moving parts, such as motors, gears and propellers.
In our classes, these activities are done with teacher supervision and the right safety equipment, such as safety glasses or gloves where needed. At home, children should only try practical activities with a responsible adult supervising, and with suitable safety equipment.
Not a set of build instructions
This website does not provide complete instructions for building any project. Please don't try to recreate potentially hazardous activities, such as working with batteries, mains power, heat or cutting tools, based only on what you see on this website.
Never experiment with mains electricity (power points, plugs or household wiring).
Batteries
Batteries can be dangerous if they are damaged, leaking or hot, and button batteries are especially dangerous if swallowed. Keep batteries away from young children, and recycle used batteries at a battery collection point.
Course descriptions may change
